Amoco Pipeline Company, Oil Pipeline Industry Glossary of Terms (undated) - 00035

This glossary is useful to readers unfamiliar with the sometimes strange language of pipelines and pipeliners.

Association of Oil Pipe Lines, Pipelines 101 (2002) - http://www.pipeline101.com/index.html

Despite the obvious bias of the AOPL, this contains useful basic information about U.S. oil pipelines, such as safety and environmental regulations, operations and maintenance, business practices, design and construction, technology, and history. For example, oil is measured in barrels (42 gallons) because when the industry began in the 1860s, crude oil was carried in old whiskey barrels of standard size.

Attorney General of Florida, Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) in Florida (1993) - 00091

This report describes the use of litigation by real estate developers or corporations to attempt to silence citizen opposition by personally suing them for often huge financial damages. It includes several state legislative proposals to limit the abusive use of SLAPP suits.

LandTech Enterprises SA, How Pipelines Work (2002) - http://www.landtech.org/howpipelineswork.htm

This booklet by an oil and gas technology company is a brief, but useful description of how the U.S. oil pipeline system works.

Special Libraries Association, Sources of Information in Transportation: Pipelines - 5th Edition (2001) - http://199.79.179.78/ref/biblio/pipelines/

This somewhat limited bibliography of technical books and reports is arranged by subject, such as corrosion and cracking, or design and construction. Unfortunately, almost all of the cited publications are not directly accessible by online links.
