Hospice Programs

Hospice is a comprehensive program designed to provide
physical, social, psychological and spiritual care and
support to persons facing terminal illness. The emphasis
is on enhancing quality of life, maintaining dignity and
relieving pain, when curative treatment is no longer possible
or desired. Family and other caregivers also receive support
and guidance. Most hospice care is home-based, although
inpatient care can be involved. Medicaid, Medicare and third
party insurance coverage is available, depending on the
hospice organization and physician referral requirements.
(Terminal illness is generally defined as a prognosis of
six months or less of life.)
