Family
Eldercare Inc. is a private non-profit agency, funded in part by
United Way, which has been providing services to elderly, adults
with disabilities and their families since 1982.
Family Eldercare's mission is to protect the dignity and well being
of the elderly and people with disabilities by preventing abuse,
neglect, and financial exploitation.
Volunteers are the backbone of Family Eldercare's programs. The
gift of your time, for only a few hours a month, can literally make
the difference in whether or not a person will receive the support
and services necessary to live with dignity. Please consider volunteering

Aging
in Place
Family Eldercare's Aging in Place Case Management offers services
to people aged 55 and older in Travis County. The mission of the
program is to empower clients to be independent in their homes by
linking them with critical community-based services that help them
age in place -- the preferred way of living for most frail elderly
and persons with disabilities. Aging in Place was originally a program
of Southwest Key and was designed and named by Ida Sing.
Services are offered on a sliding fee scale, and include but are
not limited to the following:
* Linkage to needed community resources
* Advocacy on personal and legal matters
* Assistance with obtaining medical supplies and groceries
* Meal preparations, dressing assistance, homemaker services
* Coordinating transportation
* Assistance with finding affordable housing and housing repairs
The goal of Family Eldercare's Aging in Place is to enable low-income
elderly persons who are at risk of premature institutionalization
to remain at home. Aging in Place provides support services that
address a variety of social, health and practical needs and improve
the quality of life for the elderly in Travis County. Family Eldercare's
Aging in Place is committed to providing only services not available
from other sources and to maximizing the use of existing community
resources, including client families, public and private agencies,
physicians and health providers, and religious institutions.
Elder
Shelter

elders who are facing a housing crisis.

Guardianship
& Money Management
When the elderly or adults with disabilities lose the mental or
physical capacity to care for themselves or to manage their financial
affairs, they become vulnerable to abuse, neglect and financial
exploitation. This program recruits and trains volunteer advocates
to serve as guardian agents, money managers, or representative payees
for incapacitated adults.
Volunteers provide personal advocacy and become surrogate decision-makers
for the incapacitated person. Volunteer time commitments vary from
2 to 6 hours per month which may consist of personal visits, phone
calls, bill payment, or record keeping. Call 450-0844.
